METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing chewing gum from concrete usually depends on the gum’s age and level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the chewing gum was left recently and it hasn’t penetrated the surface, we are sometimes able to remove it by covering it with ice until it freezes, then scraping the gum off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a more forgiving consistency compared to a warm and stringy mess. Once that happens, we slide a putty knife or scraper directly under the gum residue. Next we move the scraper slowly beneath the gum and the entire piece should peel right off the concrete.

The above process is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove chewing gum that is already black, or is already smashed deep down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water power washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal service, we will not use high pressure because that could ruin the surface of the concrete!
